TRANSCRIPT

The Philadelphia Inquirier is reporting that Pennsylvannia governor Rendell is expected to announce that a Greek solar-panel manufacturing company (Heliotechniki S.A) intends to build a production facility at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, a development that local officials hailed yesterday as an important step in positioning the city to be a key player in the emerging clean-energy economy. The plant is expected to create 400 to 500 jobs.

Also in Pennsylvannia, A company that makes cells that convert sunlight to energy wants to hire as many as 15 people at two locations near Pittsburgh. Solar Power Industries Inc. is based in Rostraver and already has about 250 employees. The company needs production and manufacturing workers at its headquarters and at a plant in East Huntingdon Township, both in Westmoreland County. The company has received $7.5 million in state aid for the plant and hopes to create 375 jobs over the next three years. They make solar cells, silicon ingots and solar modules used to turn sunlight into electric energy.

In Wind Power news

California-based WindStream Technologies Inc. plans to locate a development and production facility at Purdue Research Park of Southeast Indiana, state officials said Monday morning. The move is expected to create more than 260 jobs by 2012.

The startup company manufactures small-scale wind turbines called TurboMills, designed to capture wind energy in urban settings.

In Indiana…Windstream plans to invest millions to establish operations at the Purdue Technology Center in New Albany, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said in a written release. The company plans to begin hiring assembly and distribution workers and professional staff as facility and equipment upgrades are made at the site.

A new wind-power blade manufacturing plant that will create an estimated 1,000 jobs is in the works, according to Dallas-based Tang Energy. The company is gearing up to supply blades for a $1.5 billion Texas wind farm. Today’s announcement is only the latest indication of the many positive effects on the U.S. economy of developing domestic energy sources.

U.S. Renewable Energy Group (led by Dallas investor Cappy McGarr), A-Power Energy Generation Systems Ltd. of Shenyang, China, and Cielo Wind Power LP of Austin plan to build a wind farm capable of generating more than 600 megawatts of electricity on 36,000 acres of land. According to the Dallas Morning News, the project calls for 240 Chinese-made turbines and 720 blades, each 157 feet long.

TRANSCRIPT

First up… Vestas is coming to Colorado bringing thousands of new green jobs for Colorado……from the Denver Post …Vestas announced last year it will build a $290 million plant in Brighton for assembling wind-turbine nacelles and making blades. The facility is expected to be in operation by next year. The blade factory will employ about 650 people and the nacelle plant will have about 700 employees, Vestas has said. The plant is a unit of Danish wind-power giant Vestas Wind Systems A/S, which also has plants in Windsor and Pueblo.

Vestas, working with SOS Staffing, said late Monday it is recruiting an unspecified number of full-time production and warehouse positions for the Brighton plant. Those interested should visit www.sosstaffing.com/vestas to submit a resume or application in advance.

New York City plans to double its current green work force by creating over 13,000 new green jobs in the next decade, partly by competing with London to become the new center for carbon trading, a city official said on Wednesday.

New York City’s new boot camp in green finance will be run by the State University of New York’s Levin Institute. It will be open to laid-off workers or future entrepreneurs, much like an already “booming” incubator for financial start-ups, Pinsky said.

The city will also capitalize on its breezy coastlines by installing wind turbines at Hunts Point in The Bronx. Solar projects are planned for the Brooklyn Army Terminal and Long Island City. Pittsburgh a company called FLABEG, a global specialty glass manufacturer, has just opened a solar mirror factory by Pittsburgh International Airport that will bring an estimated 200 solar jobs to the region, and perhaps as many as 300.

The new $30 million facility will initially focus on its core production line of parabolic curved solar mirrors. Months before the plant opened it already received 700,000 orders, and FLABEG expects to reach a capacity of 1 million mirrors annually.

Nevada energy companies will receive nearly $93 million in federal grants to develop geothermal power…The money will fund 20 projects in Northern Nevada and create an estimated 1,100 jobs, said U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., who made the announcement with Chu. It also will benefit Nevada companies developing five projects outside the state. The grant recipients, most based in Reno, will match the federal funds with private money and nearly triple the number of geothermal power plants in Nevada from 21 to 60, Reid said. Check out this site for geothermal jobs.

TRANSCRIPT

First up… a Solar power plant will rise on Kearny NJ landfill.–Gov. Jon Corzine officially announced an $8.5 million plan to construct a solar power plant on the grounds of a former landfill. The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission will lease parts of the landfill to a company that will be responsible for designing, financing, owning and operating the solar facility.

The new plant will cover 28 acres, which is space for enough solar panels to produce 5 megawatts of power, according to the NJMC. It is estimated that the plant would create at least 180 jobs.

Next, CPS Energy and Juwi Solar Inc. have agreed to jointly develop a new solar energy project in Southeast San Antonio. Under the Blue Wing Solar project, Juwi will install 214,500 solar photovoltaic modules near the intersection of Interstate Highway 37 and U.S. Highway 181. The project should generate 14 megawatts of power. This is enough electricity to power 1,800 homes annually.

Juwi Solar, based in Boulder, Colo., expects to break ground on Blue Wing Solar in the first quarter of 2010. Electricity should begin producing toward the end of 2010. The solar facility is expected to create 100 full-time equivalent jobs during the construction phase and seven permanent jobs during the operation and maintenance phase.

The Providence Journal is reporting that a start-up company planning a biodiesel storage and blending facility in the Quonset Business Park has expanded the size of its proposal in response to a projected increase in demand for alternative fuels in New England. Alterra plans to create different blends of biodiesel by mixing diesel with soybean oil and other vegetable oils produced in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The Quonset facility could supply 35 million gallons of fuel annually. It will have 18 full-time employees, and construction of the facility could provide an additional 75 temporary jobs. If all goes according to plan, the facility could be up and running by the middle of 2010.

In Tennessee the Chattanooga Times Free Press is reporting Wind turbine tower maker Aerisyn has been purchased by a German company and plans are to add 120 jobs and invest $3 million into the company’s Chattanooga facility. The company said it expects to reach full production by mid-2011 and to employ 240 people.

Join the Green Job Corps….the National Green Energy Council has announced its new Green Jobs Corps program, designed to train people across the nation in Green methods and practices. The Council hopes that class attendees will leave the classroom with a greater knowledge of how to provide certain green services to their customers, and The Council will even assist with job placement!
